I am super excited to bring you a small variety of my favourite jumping spider species which are all selectively chosen to produce captive bred pet jumping spiders.
I handpick only the best male and female spiders to breed from that are healthy, active, kept to the highest standards of care, and live in a bio-active habitat closest to that of their natural environment in the wild.
I never rush the process of pairing a male and female spider as this can cause stress which in turn can create an unhappy spider, an unsuccessful pairing, and even end with the male being eaten by the female. Everything is done on the spiders terms in a quiet, calm environment.
I focus on quality rather than quantity, so will only ever have a small number of egg-sacs being raised at any one time. This ensures that each spiderling has individual care and attention so they can truly thrive while still in my care and go off to their new homes in tip top condition.
My spiderlings remain with their Mum under her expert care for as long as possible before being moved to their own mini enclosures and allowed to progress at their own speed.
I do not believe in power feeding spiders to fatten them up and ship them off sooner to new homes, and I never let them leave until they are at least L5/5th Instar stage of their development, eating well, are active, and haven't had any molting issues.
Below is information on the current breeding projects that are underway and at which stage of the process they’re at.
As much as I’d love to offer definite timescales, nature being as it is, things don't always go to plan and we can’t force things to fit our schedule. Make sure you’re following our social media pages for regular updates on the progress of things and when any babies will be available to purchase.
Phidippus Regius - Florida Locale (Light Phase)
Queen Bacardi, one of my favourite spiders successfully paired with the very brave Sir Eggnog.
Her second eggsac babies are just about ready to leave for new homes and will be added to the website around the end of February 2023.
Phidippus Carolinensis
One of the newer species to JSB successfully produced a fertile egg-sac after their first date, and the babies have now hatched. These should be ready around the end of February 2023 to find their forever homes.
Phidippus Regius - Soroa Locale
Our beautiful Soroa pair have successfully mated.
The first egg-sac was a small one but the babies from that will be ready to find their humans around November, and the second egg-sac has now hatched and will be ready to leave around the end of February 2023.
Phidippus Pius
A relatively new species to JSB are these beautiful and quirky little spiders. After a successful pairing between my female named Cheesy Puffs, and male named Wotsit have given me a gorgeous handful of spiderlings. These should be ready for new homes around May/June 2023.
Carol & Cletus
Hyllus Diardi
The stunning Carol, my Hyllus Diardi gave me her first egg-sac of super cute and bouncy babies. These are a species I really enjoyed raising and will continue working with in the future.
Lady S
Phidippus Regius - Florida Locale (Dark Phase)
Lady S was actually a spider that came to me for a little maternity holiday. She was a wild caught spider which was unknown to her owner, so when she laid an egg-sac only a couple weeks after the lady got her, it was a lot to handle with her being new to the jumping spider world. She then laid another 2 egg-sacs all within weeks of each other, so she made the decision to send her for a little holiday with me to have her babies where I have the set up to be able to raise them for her.
Large Marge was the first spider that ever gave me some egg-sacs, 3 in total. Sadly she's no longer with us, and she actually passed away on the same day that the first of her babies got posted out to their new homes which made it a very bittersweet day for me.
I learnt a lot from raising the first egg-sac as it was a complete surprise to me that she was even wild caught and gravid, let alone had hidden an egg-sac in the seam of her enclosure, so I had to learn hard and fast, and I'm not above admitting that it was a struggle in the beginning and that a few mistakes were made.
After a lot of sleepless nights, tears, tantrums, and wine, I was proud to have 3 gorgeous batches of Phidippus Regius Florida locale babies. These are just some of the gorgeous faces I got to watch grow from hatching until the day they went off to their new homes.
